Bill's story

For more than 15 years, Bill Miller's job was teaching roofers how to roof. Working on the supply side of the industry, he trained contractors across Alabama on materials, manufacturer warranties, and installation techniques: which products hold up, which shortcuts fail, and what separates a roof that lasts 25 years from one that fails in 10.

In 2025 he started Maverick Roofing & Construction to bring that knowledge directly to homeowners instead of routing it through other companies. A lifelong Birmingham-area resident, Bill built the company on a simple standard: the Golden Rule. Treat every customer, every home, and every job the way you would want your own treated.

That is the whole pitch. No sales floor, no commission-hungry storm chasers knocking your door after every hail event. When you call Maverick, you talk to Bill, and the person quoting your roof is the person accountable for it.

What that experience means on your roof

Material judgment.

Bill spent years teaching contractors the differences between shingle lines, so the product on your roof is chosen for Alabama's heat, hail, and humidity, not for what was cheapest on the truck.

Warranty literacy.

Manufacturer warranties have installation and ventilation conditions that void coverage when ignored. Bill taught those conditions for a living. Your roof gets installed to spec and your warranty gets registered, explained, and honored.

Straight recommendations.

A trainer's reputation is built on being right, not on closing. If your roof needs a $600 repair instead of a $15,000 replacement, that is what you will hear.

Signs your roof is telling you it is time.

Shingles do not usually fail all at once.

Watch for granules collecting in gutters and at downspout exits, shingle edges curling or cupping, dark streaks that keep spreading, daylight visible in the attic, or interior ceiling stains that come back after a repair.

If your roof is past 20 years old and showing two or more of these, replacement is usually the better spend. Under 15 years with one problem area, a repair likely holds, and we will tell you so.

The Insurance Question

  • If your replacement is storm-driven, the path runs through your homeowner's insurance, and how the damage gets documented determines how the claim goes.

  • We work with all insurance companies.

  • We photograph and document the damage before the adjuster visit, meet the adjuster on your roof if needed, and make sure the scope of the claim matches the scope of the damage.

  • You should not accept a repair payout for a roof that needs replacing, and you should not have to argue that case alone.

Don't worry, we can help!

Why the material choice matters here

Bill spent 15+ years on the manufacturer supply side teaching contractors which products perform and why.

Central Alabama roofs deal with long stretches of high heat and UV, then hail and wind events, and not every shingle line handles that combination equally.

When we spec your roof, the recommendation comes from someone who trained roofers on these exact materials, not from whatever happened to be on the truck.

STILL NOT SURE?

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most single-family homes in the Calera area are completed in one to two days. Larger or steeper roofs, or decking repairs discovered during tear-off, can add time. You get a realistic timeline in your estimate, not a best-case one.

How much does a roof replacement cost?

It depends on roof size, pitch, material choice, and how much decking needs replacing, which is why we do free on-site estimates rather than quoting blind over the phone. If insurance is involved, your out-of-pocket may be limited to your deductible.

Do I need to be home during the work?

No. We confirm scope before we start, and Bill is reachable throughout the job.

Your roof is the one part of your house you cannot afford to guess about.
